Visual Communication 1 blog

Four examples of work I feel relate to how I work/work from visual communication 1.

1. Hemmesphere music packaging- Finn

Former creative director of Saatchi design Sydney, Kevin Finn. Who works with local and international clients, with award winning work including a D&AD award for his typography. Founder of the Open Manifesto, a Australian journal focusing on critical writing on design.
The piece of work I have picked is a series of CD packaging for Hemmesphere, a cool sophisticated bar in Sydney. The covers creating a strong brand image, which stands out in any crowded CD shelf. Visually based on the beauty of symmetry.
I picked this because i like nice music packaging/ related art work and is an area I want to work in. As well as its fairly minimal, clean look. The volumes having a uniformed cover that just changes colour and some of the pages are really n nice clean prints, just text and minimal nothing to throw you from what its trying to communicate, the type set symmetrically works really well too.

2. Jump. Website www.jump-studios.com

Only set up in 2001, a studio built on a diverse mix of creatives, working out of London. Tackling a broad range of work from architecture and interior design to promotional work and print based items.
I really liked the homepage of this website, before i even looked any work , just because its a really cool idea and looks good and works really well. And how I would go about making a website if i could. Keeping it clean and simple, just a few colours and easy to navigate with a little movement to keep u interested and to play about with. I think the way it all works together is really clever and is quite different to most websites conventional way of listing a menu.

3. Momentum Photography Identity- Sweet

Working with clients like the BBC as well as tv channels offering a range of work from branding to promotional items. Sweet were asked to create a whole new identity for a photography company creating some really nice promotional brochures and stationary. A clean and contemporary look, again work thats quite simple and minimal looking. Really how I like to work. Not trying to throw too much at the page all at once. My favorite part of the work being the letter heads, really smart looking and not trying to be over the top or fancy.

4. 300 million website- www.300million.com

Based in London, mainly working with big brands. Inventing them from scratch or re-inventing existing ones, creating effective identities.
I picked this website because like Jump's I think it is a really cool looking site and a nice idea. But a little bolder and I like how the different options in the main menu bounce off each other. But keeping it simple with the colours and really a clean look and the pages for the different sections for the website are the same, nothing over the top just an organized easy navigate page. No mess and not too much going on. The 300% million loading screen is a nice touch.
I think this is a really bold and effective but simple, fun website whilst looking extremely Professional at the same time.
I think my work over the past semester has been influenced a lot by the minimal magazine spread I did and because generally the work that I tend to look at and like is quite simple, clean looking pieces of design.
